One year after The Network...|
"We're here live, at the Sinnoh League Champion's Challenge Cup! Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town, Kanto who won this year's Sinnoh League Tournament has blitzed through the Elite Four and is now up against reigning Champion Cynthia Maeter of Celestic Town!! It's a heated battle folks, and both combatants Pokémon are on their last legs! Pikachu vs. Lucario! It looks like this next move will decide the championship!!"
Two years later...
Ash Ketchum sat next to Pikachu watching the old tape of his battle with Cynthia...
After becoming Japan's number one Pokémon Master two years ago he had dedicated himself to battling the up and rising Team Galactic. Their true motives were as of yet unknown, but it was clear that they were planning something big, possibly even bigger than the Rocket takeover during the days of Giovanni.
"Hey, hey boss! I think we got somethin'!" A blonde haired teen announced, bursting into the room.
"Hm?" Switching off the TV, Ash and Pikachu turned to look at the two who entered the room.
"Dude! You can't just burst into Mr. Ketchum's office like that without announcing yourself first!" The blonde haired teen's partner protested.
"Oh, right... Sorry 'bout that, Field Agents Jun Matsumoto and Lucas Taylor reporting sir!"
"It's too late now, he already knows we're here..." Lucas muttered.
Lucas Taylor and Jun Matsumoto, two up and coming Pokémon Trainers Ash met about a year ago shortly after he and Gary went their separate ways, both of them show a lot of promise and saw Ash as a great figure. They entered the last Sinnoh League Tournament, but Lucas only made it to the top 16, while Jun was defeated in the first round by a guy who made it to the finals.
"C'mon guys, it ain't a big deal... I don't really think the living room of a Hearthome apartment qualifies as an office anyway..." Ash replied. "So, you said you've got something on Team Galactic?"
"Well, I'm not sure if it's of any importance..." Lucas started.
"They seem to be gathering at Mount Coronet!" Jun blurted, cutting his partner off.
"Yeah, what he said..." Lucas muttered, Jun had always been too impatient for his own good. Even when they were only kids.
"Mount Coronet..." Something suddenly clicked in Ash's head, he remembered something Cynthia had told him years ago. "Cyrus must be going to the Spear Pillar..."
"Spear Pillar?" Jun asked.
"Yeah, it's a legendary place atop Mount Coronet, said to be home to the Lords of Time and Space. If Team Galactic takes control there, it won't just be Sinnoh at stake, or even the world. The entire universe could potentially be destroyed."
"Lords of Time and Space? It sounds a little Farfetch'd to me..." Lucas replied.
Pikachu sweatdropped, he hated these bad puns.
"You're always all doom and Gloom when it comes to these things Lucas... Sometimes you just need to embrace the Unown! What about that Pokémon we saw at Lake Verity?"
"Kaa..." Pikachu sighed a sigh of annoyance, this is worse than the 'Cowterpie' joke...
"Now Jun... Don't try getting all Cleffa with me, it's not as if you can be Absol-utely sure that thing was the rumoured Legendary Pokémon..."
"... Pika." A throbbing vein appeared on Pikachu's forehead.
"Uh, guys... Can you stop using all these ghastly puns?" Ash asked sweatdropping.
That was the last straw. No more of this crap. "PIKACHUUUU!!!" Everyone in the room received a severe shock.
"Ok, we ready to move on?" A somewhat frazzled Ash Ketchum asked.
"Yes... Sir..." Jun and Lucas replied, before passing out.
Five days later...
"We're almost at the top!" Jun called from up ahead.
"We're coming, we're coming!" Lucas replied.
"Not good." Ash said, emerging from the cave. "Look at the colour of the sky..."
Lucas paled slightly. "You sure that even qualifies as a colour?"
"Stop worryin' 'bout the sky! Hurry up already!" Jun called.
"He's right. We have to keep moving." Ash replied.
"GAH!" suddenly, Jun fell back down from the ledge he was on, Ash and Lucas were just able to catch him.
"What happened?" Ash asked him, before Jun could reply another voice answered...
"We happened." Came the answer, as Jupiter and Mars looked down on them. "We're not going to let you interfere in our Boss' plans any longer."
"Ugh, they only got me by surprise... Lucas and I can take care of these two Boss, you go on ahead." Jun said, getting back on his feet.
"Gotcha." Ash replied. "C'mon Pikachu!"
"Pika!" the two of them shot past the Galactic Commanders.
"You can't do that!" Mars protested, turning as Ash went by.
"Bra!" A shot of psychic energy almost had Mars lose her balance.
"Leave Mr. Ketchum out of this, we're your opponents." Lucas said, his Kadabra standing ready for battle.
'No... It can't end like this... It can't!' Ash Ketchum thought to himself as he saw the world disappearing around him. At Mount Coronet's Spear Pillar, the fabric of Space and Time was beginning to tear. 'It just can't!' There was no escaping his fate, not this time. If only he hadn't gotten involved in this stupid thing, he wished that he hadn't interfered... No, that's not right. He didn't wish that. Not since he knew what Cyrus would have done if he hadn't... Less than half an hour ago (or due to warping time, 4.7 seconds, 2 months, 34 years or 5 weeks ago depending on your point of view), Dialga and Palkia had been awoken, if only he had gotten here before then...
26 minutes, 43 seconds earlier...
"Cyrus Akagi!" Ash called as he came into view, "It's time to settle this!"
"So, the famous Ash Ketchum... Pokémon Master extraordinaire, that's quite an impressive position, I must say that I'm honoured that you came to witness my ascension, I was afraid you weren't going to show this time. Of course, not half as honoured as you should be, standing in the presence of your new God!"
"God, huh? That's a shame... You see, I've seen a lot of things in my time, things you wouldn't believe... And I don't believe in any kind of omnipotent God, therefore you shouldn't exist! Go, Pikachu!" Ash replied, beginning his battle with Cyrus as Dialga and Palkia raged in the background.
'Therefore you shouldn't exist, huh?' Ash thought again...
Somewhat ironic now, since from what he could tell, neither he nor Cyrus existed anymore... All around him now was blackness, with Cyrus fading in the distance, the only one still with him now was Pikachu.
"I'm sorry I got us into this mess Pikachu..." he said to his partner.
"Pika pika!" the small yellow rodent protested, telling Ash he had nothing to apologise for.
"... You're right. We did the right thing, there's no telling what could have happened to the world if we didn't stop him."
It was at this point that Ash Ketchum seemed to completely disappear from existence, presumed dead after what seemed like a massive explosion that destroyed the entire Spear Pillar atop Mount Coronet...
Two hours later...
"Hey, Jun! I found Mr. Ketchum's Poké Balls!"
"Only his Poké Balls? Where's the rest of the Boss?"
"I don't know... There's nothing else here."
"Oh... What should we do then?"
"There's nothing we can do here, Team Galactic isn't a problem anymore..."
"Maybe we should go back down then, everyone should know the truth about the Boss' sacrifice... After all, it's thanks to him they're all still alive..."
"No. What happened here should stay between us. I don't know if those Lords of Time and Space are still here or not, but just in case if any others like Cyrus were to return to this place, I doubt there'd be anyone as selfless as him to save us... There simply aren't enough real heroes in the world like Mr. Ketchum was."
As the two boys collected the Poké Balls left behind, further away than they could possibly imagine, a new adventure was beginning...
"Chuu!!" Ash was awoken by a jolt of Electricity.
"Pikachu?" he looked at the Pokémon standing beside him before getting up and surveying the area.
"... Pikachu, I've got a feeling we're not in Kanto anymore." Looking up and seeing something flying across a rainbow, quite possibly a hallucination, suddenly gave him a major wave of déjà vu; it felt like a new beginning...
"We must be over the Rainbow."
After coming to his senses and realising what he just said made no sense whatsoever, he reached for his belt to feel for his Poké Balls... All gone. He put his hand up against his aching head. After finding it wet to touch, he looked to see blood on his hand.
"Ugh... Well at least I know I'm not dead again..." He dismissed it as just a minor cut as he saw what appeared to be a town in the distance. "Come on Pikachu, lets go see where we are."
